Wake Up Beautiful Everyday With These 5 Easy Night Time Skincare Habits

Skincare Habits

The daily bustle of our busy lives makes our skin dull and lifeless. Our skin gets exposed to the harsh sun rays, dust and pollution and perennial exposure to such conditions without proper care can lead to severe damage and premature ageing of the skin. Wrinkles, fine lines and dull skin texture are everyone’s nightmare. Although everyone hears of the importance of beauty sleep, most of us forget that it is at nighttime that our skin tries the hardest to repair itself. And with a little help of a pre-bedtime skin routine; your skin will rejuvenate its health and glow like never before. Here are some easy nighttime skincare habits that will only take a few minutes but will present you with the enhanced skin that you’ve always dreamt of.

1. Cleanse Gently:

Skin exfoliation must be undertaken only twice in a week as it can make your skin dry and take away the essential oils. But it is imperative to clean your skin with a good cleanser before bedtime to get rid of all the dust and pollution that sit on your skin but cannot be seen. Even if you haven’t stepped out of your home all day, you must still cleanse your skin and unblock your pores.

Also important is to remove your makeup before bedtime. As makeup mostly contains chemicals, it can damage your skin if kept on for a long period of time and can also result in acne. You can use a makeup remover, a special cleanser that caters to your skin type or even a regular cold cream. But make sure that you cleanse gently with the tips of your fingers and not too vigorously.

2. Use A Toner:

Tone your face with a toner that suits your skin type as it restores the natural pH balance of your skin. It also cleans your face of the dust and grime that settles on your skin, and also some extra cleanser that might have been left while cleansing. Toning is particularly important for oily skin and for those who have acne problems. It is important to use a toner that suits your skin type. There are many toners available in the market for various skin types and simple rose water also works as a natural hydrating toner.

Pour some toner on a cotton pad and wipe your face and neck area after cleansing.

3. Moisturize:

Apply some moisturizer to your face after toning as it plumps up your skin and brings back the essential oils that might have been wiped away after exfoliating and cleansing. Moisturizer helps your skin rest and keeps it hydrated during its reparation process at night. Use a moisturizer (for dry skin) or a water or gel based hydrating mask (for oily, acne prone skin) and keep it in the fridge in between usage. Apply it cold as it reduced inflammation and redness.

Tip: Apply moisturizer not only to your face and neck but to your hands, fingernails and feet to have them soft and beautiful when you wake up in the morning.

4. Pin Up Your Hair:

Your hair accumulates oil and dirt which is only washed away the next morning. Leaving your hair open can make them land on your face and pillows when you’re sleeping and lead to severe breakouts. While this will definitely help your skin, it will help your hair too. Brush your hair and tie it up into a loose bun, ponytail or braid before you get to bed. Make sure it is not tight. Many people suggest tying up the hair in a silk scarf before bed. This will keep your hair away from your face and you will have them tangle-free in the morning. Who doesn’t love that?

5. Sleep On Your Back:

Resting your face on a pillow can result in ‘sleep wrinkles’ or fine lines. Sleeping on your stomach or on your side can result in some not-so-pretty marks when you wake up. Sleeping on your back also retains the fluids in your face so that you don’t have a puffy look in the morning. Even worse, a prolonged habit of sleeping on one side can lead to premature wrinkles on that side of the face. If you have a habit of sleeping on your stomach, it is advised to switch to silk pillowcases as cotton pillowcases can be rough on your skin and hair.
