An essential ingredient in Indian cuisine – turmeric – has amazing health and skin benefits. In fact, regular use of turmeric blesses the person with beautiful and radiant skin. The skin benefits of turmeric are due to its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, antibacterial and antiviral properties. Packed with vitamins C and B6 and calcium, potassium and magnesium, turmeric has the ability to cure not only acne but also serious skin diseases like rosacea and eczema. If you are worried about turmeric staining your skin then do not because these face packs contain smaller quantities of turmeric in proportion to other ingredients. Besides, applying these masks for 20 minutes works wonders on the skin and such less time is not enough for the turmeric to stain your skin.
1. For Glowing Skin
Turmeric combined with honey and raw milk has great effects on the skin. Raw milk softens the skin and hydrates it well to knock off dryness. Milk is rich in essential minerals that exfoliate dead skin cells and shrink pores thereby preventing pimples and acne. At the same time, milk reduces oxidative stress caused by free radicals and hence prevents premature ageing. On the other hand, honey also humidifies the skin naturally as it is a humectant. It removes age spots, skin discolorations, dark spots, acne scars.
Honey is also effective in lightening the skin tone, especially on suntanned skins. This face pack will regenerate the skin cells thereby giving them the nourishment they deserve. To prepare this face pack you will require 1/4 teaspoonful of turmeric and add one teaspoonful each of honey and raw milk. Cleanse your skin with water prior to applying the pack. Mix the ingredients properly and apply on the face and neck and leave it on till the mask dries up. Rinse off with cold water.
2. For Lightening Skin Tone
Turmeric when combined with lemon juice and honey can lighten your skin tone and give you a fairer look. Lemon juice is a natural astringent and has antibacterial properties that prevent acne, pimple, whiteheads, etc. People with oily skin who experience excess sebum production and expels dirt that accumulates in the pores. Honey, on the other hand, lightens skin tone and removes and reduces age spots and acne scars. It prevents fine lines from appearing on the skin.
It hydrates and moisturizes the skin. Mix 1/4 teaspoonful of turmeric with 1 tablespoon honey and 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice. Do not increase the quantity of lemon juice as it may cause irritation or burning in some. Wash your face properly, pat dry and apply the pack with clean fingers on face and neck. Leave it on for up to 15 minutes and rinse off with water.
3. For Removing Dead Skin Cells
Turmeric and gram flour (chick pea) face pack is a good homemade scrub for removing dead skin cells and rejuvenate the skin altogether. Chick pea reduces wrinkles, gently exfoliates and rejuvenates the skin and moisturizes it for a glowing complexion. Chick pea contains manganese that initiates energy production in cells thereby fighting the wrinkles caused by free radicals. It also contains molybdenum that removes sulphites and detoxifies the skin.
Folate as well as vitamin B in chick pea flour repair sun tan and help the skin get rid of toxins. This pack would restore pH balance of the skin naturally. Mix turmeric and gram flour in equal quantities that is to say in little amounts. Add some milk when you are ready to apply the pack. Mix them well, was your face properly, apply the mixture and gently rub the skin with your fingers in circular motion. Do it for 15 minutes for best results.
4. For Dry Skin
Turmeric and egg whites together put in a face mask can kill your dry skin woes. Egg whites tighten as well as tone the skin. It contains potassium that moisturizes and hydrates the skin thereby keeping the moisture intact in the skin. Protein in egg whites repair cell tissues and promote cell growth. This process delays appearance of wrinkles on the skin. It also contains riboflavin that eliminates free radicals. Magnesium delays aging of the skin. At the same time, egg whites reduce sebum production by shrinking large pores.
Egg whites contain an enzyme – lysozyme – that kills acne-causing bacteria. Mix few drops of almond or olive oil with 1 egg white, add turmeric, lemon juice and rose water and mix them well. Apply this mixture on your face and other dry areas as well like knees and elbows. Let the face pack dry up and rinse it off.
5. For Oily Skin
Add a pinch of turmeric powder to 2 teaspoonfuls of yogurt. Add 1 teaspoon each of rose water and fuller’s earth to the mixture and mix all the ingredients well. Add sandalwood powder to it for its astringent action. Apply a smooth paste on the face and leave it for at least 15 minutes. Once the face pack dries off, rinse with cold water.
Yogurt contains live cultures that keep off the acne-causing bacteria. Also, both the ingredients have anti-inflammatory properties that prevent acne and pimples on oily skin. Fuller’s earth would absorb dead skin cells and sandalwood powder would reduce acne marks and spots.
