5 Steps To Color Your Hair Using Lemon Juice

Bored with the same old look and want to try something new? Why don’t you try coloring your hair a shade lighter and getting some highlights to go with it? No, you don’t have to visit the salon for this. Humble lemon juice is enough to accomplish the task of “dyeing” your hair and lightening it.

Here’s How You Go About Doing This

Prepare Hair Lightening Solution

You will need warm water, lemon juice and orange juice for making this solution. Mix ¼ cup of warm water with one cup each of lemon juice and orange juice to prepare the solution.

Add Conditioner For Dry Hair

If you have dry hair, add ¼ cup of hair conditioner and mix well. Lemon juice tends to dry out the hair, so don’t forget this step if you have dry hair.

Apply The Solution

Take the prepared solution in a spray bottle and spray it on your hair. If necessary, brush your hair to distribute the mixture. If you want highlights, apply the solution using a cotton ball on specific strands. You will have to keep track of the strands you want highlighted as lightening your hair using this process takes more than one try. If you have added conditioner to the mixture, use a brush to apply the lightening solution. This is because, when conditioner is added the solution becomes thicker and it is difficult to apply just by spraying or combing the hair.

Sit Out In The Sun

Now, that you have prepped you hair, it is time to give it the much needed dose of sunshine. Pick out a comfortable spot in the sun and wait it out. You will need to sit out for at least 60 to 90 minutes to see any change. And, don’t forget to apply sunscreen when you are out in the sun. After 90 minutes, apply some more solution to your hair and wait it out again under the sun for another 30 minutes.

Wash Your Hair

Finally, give your hair the much needed wash. Apply conditioner liberally while washing your hair as lemon juice would have made the hair dry. Now, don’t fret if you can’t see any changes in your hair color right away. As with any natural process, coloring your hair lighter with lemon juice will take time. Repeat the process for another 3 to 4 weeks to see any changes.
