3 Pre Wedding Style Tips For Men In Indian Weddings

Pre Wedding Style Tips For Men In Indian Weddings

While a lot has been said and written about style tips for Indian brides on their D day, not much is known about what the groom would need to know when it comes to choosing his wedding outfit. Well, here’s a style guide for all of those grooms out there in desperate need of some style advice to rock their ‘groom look’ before D day. These tips would allow you to choose the best outfits for the various ceremonies and celebrations that form the base of the quintessential Indian wedding.

For The Bachelor Party

This is one party before the wedding where you can simply let down your hair and have all the fun you want. But know that it is also an intimate gathering of your best friends who would tend to dish out tons of advice about the wedding. Your best bet in this case would be slim trousers and a cotton shirt. You can complete the look with a linen jacket, preferably with a contrasting pocket square. If it is a winter wedding, you can switch the linen jacket for a quilted jacket, preferably in dark shades. Complete the look with gold colored buttons.

For Evening Functions

The sangeet, sagan and ring ceremonies usually take place in the evenings, and are semi traditional occasions. You would most probably be asked to perform a small puja before the ceremonies. So opt for an outfit that is comfortable for you to sit down, stand up and dance to your heart’s content with your friends and family members.

A semi traditional look like a fitted jacket teamed with cowl pants or Patiala salwar would look great for these occasions. Choose an Indo-western jacket that is shorter but more contemporary than the traditional sherwani. For summer weddings, fabrics like linen, cotton silk or light Benarasi brocade can do well for your outfit. In case of a winter wedding, fabrics like raw silk, velvet or heavy poly-linens would work well. An uncluttered look with proper detailing on the collars, motif and cuff along with some embroidered buttons can work great for the evening functions.

For The Morning Functions

Functions like the Haldi ceremony usually take place in the morning and is attended by close family members and friends. Hence, bright colors would really make your outfit stand out in the crowd. Opt for a casual outfit like a simple kurta and chudhidhar. Team it up with a contrasting waistcoat with light embroidery on it. Fancy buttons would complete your look to perfection.

If you don’t prefer a waistcoat, opt to wear a simple, light colored stole along with the kurta and chudhidhar. This would give you a formal look which you can complete with Peshwari sandals.
